Snapshots in Time

About

Snapshots in Time is a brand-new, exciting community film and arts project celebrating Newquay, it’s people nature and which explores the future of the town post pandemic and its relationship to the wider climate change emergency through film, dance, music, spoken word and visual art.

In April 2022 Blystra Arts received funding from Tresorys Kernow and Arts Well CIC to deliver a brand-new, exciting community arts project celebrating Newquay, it’s people and its landscape and exploring the future of the town post pandemic and its relationship to climate change through film, dance, music, spoken word and visual art.

Snapshots in Time will offer three community film making workshops in Newquay this Spring and one family dance workshop to local people and will be doing a call out to the general public to send in their mini films for inclusion in a final film premiered in June 2022.

Working closely with a number of key partners in the town, Newquay Dance Collective, Newquay Museum, The Celtic Lounge Café, SproutSpoken, Bounce Dance Academy,  Newquay Connections, Youth Art Connect and Action for Children, Blystra Arts hopes to be able to reach many people during the life of the project in May and June 2022 and for people from many different walks of life to engage with the initiative, which will also involve community events, one on the Killacourt on the 21st of May – Connecting on the Court and one or several film events where project participants will get to see their films on the big screen in June 2022.

During the project Blystra Arts will use their new, hot of the press pedal powered energy system to engage participants in conversations around the future climate emergency, using the kit to demonstrate how much energy it takes to power everyday household items. Participants will get to use the kit to show each other their mini films at the end of each session, viewing what they have created as a group and sharing ideas and thoughts about their films.

Blystra Arts Director Ellen Moule said: “Snapshots in Time is going to be a fantastic collaborative project for our town. It will connect people from across Newquay, getting them to explore some big subjects, while being creative and having fun together, but will also be a chance for us to connect with others once again after a difficult few years of the pandemic, giving participants the chance to produce something individually which will then be included in a bigger film, seen by more people.”

We are asking people to submit their films of no more than 60 seconds about Newquay to us by the 18th of May 2022 to info@blystraarts.org.
