Snapshots in Time

April – June 2022

We powered our session with Youth Art Connect using pedal power, and ran the “Bubble Bike Boogie” on Newquay’s Killacourt above the harbour and Towan Beach during the Connecting on the Court event. The final project film was made using mini-films shot and edited during workshops and features poetry from SproutSpoken and dance from Bounce Dance Academy and Newquay Dance Collective.

Alongside partner organisations in Newquay the project “Snapshots in Time” delivered workshops in filmmaking using a smartphone and video editing apps. In April 2022 Blystra Arts received funding from Tresorys Kernow and Arts Well CIC to deliver a brand-new, exciting community arts project celebrating Newquay, its people and its landscape and exploring the future of the town post pandemic and its relationship to climate change through film, dance, music, spoken word and visual art.

During the project Blystra Arts used their new, hot of the press pedal powered energy system to engage participants in conversations around the climate emergency, using the kit to demonstrate how much energy it takes to power everyday household items. Participants got to use the kit to show each other their mini films at the end of each session, viewing what they have created as a group and sharing ideas and thoughts about their films.

Working closely with a number of key partners in the town, Newquay Dance Collective, Newquay Museum, The Celtic Lounge Café, SproutSpoken, Bounce Dance Academy,  Newquay Connections, Youth Art Connect and Action for Children, Blystra Arts reached many people during the life of the project in May and June 2022 and people from many different walks of life engaged with the initiative which also involved community events, one on the Killacourt on the 21st of May – Connecting on the Court, and several film events.
