Newquay Lantern Parade and creative activity

3rd February, 2025

Since 2022 Blystra Arts have been involved in the lantern parade activity across Newquay. In 2024 the parade moved to Trenance Valley, and Blystra Arts became a lead partner of the lantern parade activity in the town, delivering all the creative workshops related to the parade and the lantern parade itself alongside Newquay BID.

A large illuminated lantern in the shape of a bird or dragon with wing-like features hovers above a nighttime crowd.

The 2024 parade and workshop activity saw the company work with over a thousand people across Newquay in all of Newquay’s schools and hundreds of people in the community from Oct to Nov 2024. Hundreds more people attended the actual parade event in Trenance Valley, which was part of a wider event, Trees and Tales, which also encompassed the Trenance Light Switch-On event. Newquay Lions were on-hand to marshall the event to keep it safe and enjoyable. Trees and Tales was run by Trenance Cottages and the Garden Café. Alongside Blystra Arts and Newquay BID, these four organisations form the organising committee for the lantern parade and Trenance Light Switch on moving forward and have already met to discuss the 2025 event.

Blystra Arts are currently seeking business sponsors who will be able to support this hugely popular autumn event in the town in 2025. For more information about how to sponsor this event, and support all the creative activity around the parade please contact info@blystraarts.org

In 2024, the Newquay Lantern parade and the lantern making creative activity was funded by Experience Newquay, Newquay BID, Coodes Solicitors and Newquay Town Council and was part of Be Newquay Festival in 2024.
